American Cancer Society
The Alabama State Project for 2011-2013 is to partner with the American Cancer Society and raise at least $5000 in the next two years. Alpha Chapter members donated and purchased items in a silent auction to support this effort. Established in 1913, the American Cancer Society’s mission is to fight cancer, save lives, and reduce suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service. Every dollar provided to the American Cancer Society goes toward eliminating cancer as a major health concern.
Shoeboxes for the Needy
Each year the Alpha Zeta Chapter selects a school to help in Barbour County and Quitman County. We rotate between Eufaula City Schools, Barbour County Schools and Quitman County Schools. The counselor selects 25 students who are the most needy. Alpha Zeta sisters are giving a five-year-old boy or girl's name. She obtains a shoebox and fills it with goodies for a five-year old: hat, gloves, games, coloring books, dolls, candy, crayons, pencils, erasers, stickers and other items that will please a five-year-old. She then wraps it and puts the child's name on the box. All the boxes are delivered to the school to be distributed by the counselor on the last day of the first semester.
Books for the Hospital
Children's books are collected by the Alpha Zeta Members to be given to the local or regional hospital for the children's ward.
